The head of a female figurine is a characteristic example of the ancient Cycladic Civilization. Cycladic art originated in the Cyclades, a cluster of about 30 small islands in the southwestern part of the Aegean. These islands include Naxos and Paros, which were famous for their top quality marble. Cycladic figurines, such as this one, were produced during the 3rd millennium B.C., carved in marble. They continue to inspire great artists to this day. Their abstract form was perhaps an ideal representation of the Mother Goddess, a symbol of rebirth. They are characterized by their simple design and their seemingly modern look. This item is based on and inspired by the National Archaeological Museum’s collection of Cycladic Art and the Museum of Cycladic Art’s collection in Athens This is a hand finished museum-quality artwork
